I Actually Liked Tracy Morgan

Was lucky enough to watch Cop Out last night and I will freely admit that I loved it. I know a lot of critics have been bashing it and that I am a little biased when it come to Kevin Smith movies (even if he only directed it) but this movie was funny as hell. I read a review that said it best: if you think this movie looks good and funny, you will probably find it such. It pretty much delivers what you think it will. It doesn't reach beyond anything. If you think this movie looks stupid, skip it. But if you have any interest, I would say see it. Good stuff. And if you are still up in the air about it, I would recommend watching the red band trailer for it. A quick google search should bring it up somewhere.
But they should have stayed with the original title of A Couple of Dicks. Fits the movie a little better.

Double Review

Two movies in the last couple of days that I would love to share my opinion on.

The Crazies: Trailers for this one made me think that I would be in for an amazing zombie-ish gore fest. I was wrong. Crazies isn't a bad movie, really. You don't go into these kind thinking they're gonna be great anyway but it wasn't bad. My only real complaint was that there was much less gore than I thought there would be. That's really the main reason I watched it. But it was cool. decent stuff. If you're interested in it, you'll probably like it.

Black Dynamite: Holy mother of funny! This movie may be one of the best farce movies I have seen in a very long time. It looked like a funny movie but I really had no idea that I would laugh this much. If you have never heard of it, Dynamite is about a kung fu brotha who, after his real brother is shot dead, returns to the CIA to rid the streets of smack and avenge his brother's death with blood and... well kung fu. Huge play on the old school blaxploitation films, this one if awesome. It's out on dvd now so if you have no problem with foul language, profane nudity and kung fu treachery, then you have to see it. Have to. See it.

Leo DeCrapeo Still Sucks

Watched Shutter Island last night and it's clear to me that DeCrapeo is relying on Scorsese to have any kind of career. And I wish I could say this was another one to keep him alive but alas, the luck has run out. Shutter is the story of two federal marshals investigating the disappearance of an inmate in the country's "worst of the worst" insane asylum. Visually, Scorsese still knows what he's doing but the writing was sub-par at best. Plot holes throughout, a mysterious bandage in Leo's head the whole time, Rorschach for only five minutes and a "twist ending" that you will have to be 10 years old not to see. The only plus to this movie is the it reminds me that I'm one day closer to watching Cop Out.

The King of Kong

I just finished watching The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters and I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed. I have not rooted for the "good guy" that much in a very long time. The story is fairly simple in that it chronicles the journey of two men trying to lay claim to the highest score on Donkey Kong. Very quickly, however, you learn that this isn't about "may the best man win". This is about pride and integrity and proving to be a man of your word. I know in being a geek, I am a little biased towards something with this subject matter but Billy Mitchell is a douche. And so are the guys who help him. And that's all I'm giving you. If you want more, you'll have to watch it. If you have netflix, then it'll be real simple because its an instant watch through them. Do it. You will not be disappointed. And if you do, watch the credits. They have some of those "where are they now" blurbs at the end.

Avengers Get Cancelled and Get Relaunched

So, Marvel has announced that all four Avengers titles (New, Mighty, Dark and Initiative) are ending at the end of Siege but have already announced some of the plans to bring them back.
Presumably the core title, Avengers will be written by long-time Avengers scribe Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by John Romita Jr. I can only guess that there will be a few more additions to the team but the five members we have now are Bucky Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye and Spider-Woman. Not much else said, however, since Siege is only half way through.
The second book (and obviously the most secret) is the Secret Avengers. Mostly all that we know is the Ed Brubaker will be writing and Mike Deodato will be drawing.
Those two name, though, are all it took for me to get a complete NB over the Avengers. Count me in for both.

Travolta Can Still Be Cool

Watched From Paris With Love last night and I give it my stamp of approval. Cool flick. They keep boasting how it's from the guys who did Taken, but I wouldn't quite put it at that level. Loved Taken, really Like Paris. And much the opposite of Pelham 123, John Travolta was pretty cool as the bad-ass. I think the main difference between the two is that in Pelham, he's a stock-broker gone bad. Just suppose to be a mean dude. And Travolta didn't do that for me. In Paris, he's a bit more cocky. Not really bad as much as he knows he does dirty work and why not enjoy it if ya get to do it. Cool flick. Worth watching if ya get the extra two hours

Yes, I Do Sometimes Think

So, there have been some things on my mind of late and I shall release them upon you.

First: People with signs asking for food or money or work. I get it. The economy sucks and its hit some of us more than others and I'm sorry. It sucks. It really does. And I would imagine finding a nice job like your last one is extremely difficult and getting back into a life you are comfortable with is gonna be hard. But there's a goddamn McDonald's behind you and they hire any- and everyone! Standing your lazy ass on a corner, begging for others to now pay your way isn't going to help! No, it's not going to get you the same money you used to make or the same life you used to have, but have some damn dignity. It's still gonna make you more money than what that Dodge Caravan is gonna give ya.

Second: Jeph Loeb is still not a good writer. As horrible as it may make me sound, Loeb hasn't been a good writer since his son died and maybe he should stop for a while. Fallen Son was decent but it wasn't anything mind-blowing. And Soulfire and Hulk: Gray were ok. But I'm talking good Loeb like Spider-Man: Blue. Dark Victory. For All Seasons. Those are amazing and still are to this day. Blue was in 2002 and the others were both over a decade ago. Ultimate X came our today and it just re-solidifies it for me. Granted, I'm pretty sure Marvel gave him the blueprints and he just built it, but come on. We now have to have an Ultimate version of Wolverine's son? Who incidentally has some sort of Colossus power too (and by the way, having ultimate Colossus gay doesn't help with that image either)? The man needs to step away for a while and realize what he's good at doing.

Last: Siege is damn awesome! It's certainly not up to par with Blackest Night but Siege is only two issues in and I already love it! Screw Norman Osborn! But with the Sentry as his pet now, he's got all the power he needs. If you really don't care, ask in a comment who Sentry kills in issue 2. Total Bad-Ass. And the ending to issue 2 is amazing. Probably one of my favorite endings in a very long time. And with Siege being only 4 issues long, the action is just piling up. Great read and worth the 3.99 price tag.

I hope the rants weren't too long but if they were, oh well. It's my blog and I can do what I want.
Fart.
See? Whatever I want.

LOST Makes No F-ing Sense

And I still love it. Two hour season premiere, one answer and thirty new questions. I tell ya, if you aren't already watching it, you should be. Great stuff. Almost as good as Dexter and Supernatural.

Some Hard Stuff

That title was meant to merely provoke your mind and to get your attention....
But seriously. It's kinda hard for me to remember to post crap here. I think the real problem is the my undiagnosed ADD kicks in and I forget everything once I see something shinny. But all I can do is promise that I will try harder to give the 6 of you who (sorta)care more crap to read. Because nothing is more important than hearing about my life on an hour to hour basis.
