Lovin' the Bruce

I know I quite often am late when it comes to great things, but if you haven't seen it yet, watch My Name is Bruce. It's essentially Three Amigos but with only 1 amigo. And it's Bruce Campbell. Campbell plays himself as a town plagued by the Chinese God of War (and protector of bean curds) calls upon him for his help, only he thinks its all an act. Nothing about this movie will ever be close to Oscar caliber but if you love Bruce Campbell, you will love this movie. Dare I say, a must for Campbell fans.

Heaven on Earth

Dear Diary,
I've never really considered myself to be a religious man, but I knew if I prayed enough someone would listen to me and after visiting the local Best Buy, I learned that someone finally had. And that someone was none other than Harry Callahan. The fictitious cop, not the photographer. And he has saved me. With the Dirty Harry film collection. The first four Dirty Harry movies for $12.99. It was if the clouds opened and a giant .44 magnum was pointed down at me. No, it doesn't have have fifth movie, The Dead Pool, but who needs a fifth movie? Especially when it has Jim Carrey and Liam Neeson in it. Two horrible actors that nobody even cares about....
Yes sir. I definitely felt like a lucky punk.

Love Always,
ME

Check out this music video. As the title says, it is the literal video to Total Eclipse of the Heart. Great stuff.

Best Comic Movie Ever

If you haven't seen it yet, you need to watch the Richard Donner cut of Superman II. After running over-budget and behind schedule, Donner was fired from the first two Superman movies before they were both finished. This lead to a half-cocked attempt at Superman II, which was rewritten and reshot. 26 years later, Warner Brothers decided to release his version of the film and, in my opinion, it's one of, if not the best comic movie made. And to prove my point, I have made a list of the five moments that should prove my point.

5) Zod Loves Guns - In a scene that you may not think fits, Zod, while attacking the White House, takes a gun and begins to shoot armed forces. With a smile. Powers or not, Zod relishes in destruction and in using their own weapons against them, he becomes a giddy school kid and it scares me even more.

4) Continuity - "Hey guys. You know what we didn't put in Superman that we should put into Superman II? France. We should definitely put France in there.".... Why the hell would Lois Lane be in France?! I mean, I know why they told us she was there, but why the holy hell would Lois Lane be in France?! How about we connect things a little better. Instead of some kind of nuclear bomb in France releasing the Kryptonians, how about we make it so that the missiles that Superman disposed of from the first one do it? That sound a little better? That last one was rhetorical. Anything would be better than France.

3) Giant, Saran Wrap S's Aren't Scary - We just had a big fight between everyone in Metropolis, why bother with another one in the Fortress of Solitude? We go strait to Superman taking away the Kryptonians powers, to them all falling down big cracks. Plain and simple. No netting traps made of big S's, no crazy teleporting. Just Superman out-smarting them, which is why he "ran away" from the other fight to begin with. Save the innocents and take control of it. Without their powers, the bad guys lose. Easy as that.

2) Jor El Hates Pre-Marital Sex - In one small scene, Marlon Brando is able to become a great part of this movie and one of it's best scenes. After Clark comes to him in the Fortress, saying he wants to be human so that he can spend his life with Lois, Jor El reluctantly tells him the only way to do it, and that he thinks one woman isn't worth more than protecting the entire world. After Clark makes his choice and the red sun begins to take away his powers, the floating image head of Jor El glances over at Lois and gives one of the best death eyes you have ever seen given. The amount of distaste in just one, small shot is amazing. And all Lois can do is slink back out of view. A dead guy really just had that much power.

1) Lois is an Investigative Journalist - In what I think may be my favorite comic movie scene ever, Lois discovers Clark is Superman the right way. No longer is Superman an idiot who can't walk strait. No longer will a bear-skin rug be the villain to finally best the Man of Steel. In a moment of brilliant thinking, Lois decides to pull a gun on Clark, knowing what the outcome should be. "I made a mistake because I risked my life instead of yours". Once that Gun goes off, Reeve quickly shows why he's the best. In an instant, we get to see everything about Clark change into Superman: chest puffed out, voice an octave lower and posture that makes him a foot taller. "You realize, of course, if you'd been wrong, Clark Kent would have been killed", "... With a blank?". Bazinga. Just how it should be.

The Bible = You Keep Your Head

Dear Diary,
After watching The Book of Eli last night, things became more clear for me. This whole time, I have been worried about doing bad stuff because of the repercussions but as it turns out, as long as I believe in the word of the Bible, nothing can touch me. Not even Gary Oldman. I can't even begin to tell you how relieved I am to know this. Especially the Gary Oldman part. That dude has scared me ever since Lost in Space... Wait. I'm thinking of Matt LeBlanc. That dude scares me.
Love Always,
ME

Money: From My Pockets to DC's Wallets

DC announced this week two new, bi-monthly series that will run for the next year. The first (and less important) title will be the return of the Justice League International in Justice League: Generation Lost. It will bring back JLI writer Keith Giffen to the characters of Captain Marvel, Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, Fire, Ice and Red Rocket, only this time he will be paired with Judd Winick. It is set to go 26 issues starting around May (maybe) and it will come out twice a month, in between the other bi-monthly title of Brightest Day.
Brightest Day is the aftermath from Blackest Night. The 26-issue series will be written by Geoff Johns and Peter Tomasi (current writers of Lantern and Lantern Corps, respectively) and will have the obvious tie-ins to both other books. It is also the first announced work from newly exclusive Dave Finch as he will be on cover detail. Spreading out from the half-year title, will be the launch of 2 other books and an other's tie-in. Starting with issue 44, Justice League of America will fall under its banner, with it having the first team-up of the new rosters for it and Society.Titans will also see a new relaunch under the banner, however it is a new team lead by their main baddie Deathstroke. Finally, the new Flash book from Johns and Francis Manapal will also come under Brightest Day.
Johns on Flash again was all I needed to hear. The others could be cool, but they all fail in comparison to this title. So thank you, DC, for taking more money from me that should be spent on something better like rent or a girlfriend. Or buying a girlfriend.

Masters of the Universe Art

There's a really cool art gallery featuring depictions and interpretations of the beloved Masters of the Universe. I think this one might be one of my favorites but check them out. They are available for purchase so if you really love 'em, support 'em.

Click over to the Los Angeles gallery and it's pretty easy to find them from there

Spidey 4 Goes Bust

Announced today, Sony and Marvel are not proceeding with the forth installment of the Spider-Man movie franchise and are instead rebooting it with more stories with Peter Parker in high school. Along with the cancellation, Sam Raimi, Toby Maguire and Kirsten Dunst are all separating from the movie mytho as well.
I personally am disappointed with this. In all honesty, I don't really care that they are rebooting it, I am merely saddened that a very successful franchise is now going the same way as everything else (both Superman and the Fantastic Four are set fro rebooted movies). Say what you will about Spider-Man 3 but there is no denying that everybody involved in these movies have brought something huge and great to movie-goers. I just hope this doesn't push audiences away, not wanting to waste another 9 years on something they have already (kinda)seen.

Winner: Best Picture of the Year

New trailer for Kick-Ass has arrived. Not to get too ahead of myself, but I think this may just be the greatest movie ever made. Ever.

(someday I'll figure this video crap out...)

More Lantern News

It has been reported that 22 year old Blake Lively has signed on as Hal Jordans love interest, Carol Ferris (and with luck, a possible Star Sapphire/Love Lantern...). I, for one, do not know who this young lady is, but I would be more than willing to find out. Just as long as I dont have to watch her on Gossip Girl. That would be a deal breaker. She looks good, and it seems like she looks like a fit to be next to Ryan Reynolds but I have never seen her acting so..... She's hot. I suppose thats all that matters.

Iron Man's New Duds

This week started Marvel's next big epic with Siege, which is bringing back the Trinity (Steve Rogers/Cap, Iron Man and Thor) for the first time in almost a decade. Anyone who has been following Tony Start lately has seen his status as hero and his entire brain capacity, dwindle down to pretty much nothing. But of course he's going to bounce back. They have an extremely successful movie franchise to now worry about. Which brings us to the new Iron Man armor. Conveniently enough, it's just in time for the new movie and looks a little more like it than before. So behold! The comic answer to the movie's answer to a comic question never really asked!

Kids Say the Darndest Things

Not sure how to put the actual vadeo on here, so until then, here is the address. Might just be the coolest thing ever about skateboarding. Oh, and there's cursing, so be careful if you try to watch it in church.

Vampire's are Still Stupid

As luck would have it, we get yet another vampire flick Friday with Daybreakers. Much to my approval, this one does not center around a high school girl finding out that she has fallen in love with a gay vampire or an illegally-aged werewolf. It does however have Ethan Hawke, so ya gotta kinda choose your poison. But I digress. Daybreakers had a good start, with some great looking make-up in the vampire monsters/mutants. But thats about where it stopped. Poor story and poor acting have made this yet another vampire flick that makes Rice roll over in her grave (even if she's not dead, because I don't really know or much care). And the best part, in a twist you will never see coming (SPOILER ALERT), it is actually the sunlight that turns them back into humans. Sunlight. Turns out I actually was watching a movie about gay vampires.

Finch Goes Exclusive

It was announced today that comic artist Dave Finch has signed an exclusive contract with DC. After a very long stint with Marvel, this might be (some of)his first with their competitor. I am personally a big fan of the guy's work and am more than a little excited to see what they put him on. I could easily see them putting him on a Bat-book, especially with how dark and gritty his style is. Would also make sense for them to throw him on something Lantern with how large those charatcers have gotten (Finch on anything with Atrocitus might just be a too much of a geek-gasm for me to handle though).
However, I think this would be the perfect point to push forward with something from the Fifth World. The New Gods haven't been seen since Morrison's Final Crisis, and what better way to usher in a new era for them than to have one of the biggest names in art drawing them. It could make a great opportunity for DC to remake them into a force to be noticed as opposed to the stale slop that Byrne tried.

..... Well shit.

A World Doomed

Dear Diary,
What am I to do now? How can I compete with this? It's completely unfair and I don't like the chances my future children have against a being destined to be this powerful. I can only hope that any kind of apprentice that he takes is able to overcome his dark influences and rise up for us all....

Illegal in 46 States

Dear Diary,
Today I saw Avatar and the only thing I remember was all the blue sex. I feel dirty. I don't know how this movie got passed the sensors. James Cameron should feel ashamed. I know I do. But just to make certain, I'm gonna go see it in 3D tomorrow.

Love Always,
