Gran Torino Gives Me Eastwood

I was scanning the channels a bit ago and Gran Torino was on so I clicked it over. I love this movie. It was my very first Clint Eastwood movie and it makes me a little sad that I didn't give him a shot sooner. This movie is awesome and I just wanted to stop by and tell ya that if you haven't seen that movie, you should.

RED

I expect Adam to post the trailer for The Green Hornet so I am going with the trailer for RED. RED was a three issue mini that Warren Ellis did some seven years ago and it's the story of an old retired CIA man who, after an attempt to kill him, gets his finale revenge. It's only three issues long so I expect the movie to take a lot of liberties but I think it actually looks really cool. And Helen Mirren being "bad ass" looks like fun.

Adam Is Right. Again.

I decided to get off my butt early this morning and finally check out the A Team for myself and I am very pleased to announce that Ryan and Adam were absolutely right. This movie was awesome. I was never a fan of the show, but more so just familiar with it. I can't even remember ever having watched an episode, but this movie makes me wish I had. I really liked this movie and agree with everything Adam says (except for the Karate Kid part. He's wrong on that one. Heck, dude hasn't even seen it yet...). Definitely worth seeing. And that "end" scene when BA "comes back" might have been one of my favorite parts. BA was certainly Bad Ass in that scene.

I Don't Like Russel Brand

But I love when he plays Aldous Snow. Not only did I love Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but I thoroughly enjoyed him in Get Him to the Greek. Yet I watched him on some MTV crap years or so back and I wanted to punch him. Only thing Russel Brand has going for him is Katy Perry (which I am jealous of for she is extremely hot (and if you say she isn't, then that makes you jealous of her. Cuz she is)). However, as I was perusing through Target last night, I noticed something that made Russel Brand worth listening to: the Get Him to the Greek soundtrack! Russel Brand does all the vocals (except for the Jackie Q songs) and it's by the band from the movies, so it's technically him being Aldous Snow so it's awesome. It's extremely vulgar but awesome. check it out if you get the chance.

Boise Scares Me

I just saw this on MSN and it makes me not wanna go to Boise:

Cops bust woman, 74, for pouring mayo in book drop

BOISE, Idaho - Police in Idaho think they might have solved a yearlong condiment crime spree. Authorities said a 74-year-old Boise woman arrested after pouring mayonnaise in the Ada County library's book drop box is a person of interest in at least 10 other condiment-related crimes.

Joy L. Cassidy was picked up Sunday at the library, moments after police say she pulled through the outside drive-through and dumped a jar of mayo in the box designated for reading materials.

Cassidy was released from jail and faces a misdemeanor charge of malicious injury to property.

Megan Fox Plays a Whore and She was Perfect For It

I watched Jonah Hex last night and I surprisingly liked it. Ok, maybe it's not that surprising since I tend to like a lot of crap that I shouldn't but this one was pretty decent. Yeah it had some lame moments and yes the plot had it's share of holes but I didn't care. It was a fun movie. And Megan Fox had no purpose to the movie at all. Her character was only put in there so that John Malkovich could use her against Hex, but Hex went after him anyway so she was pointless. And as much as Megan Fox could have still screwed that up, she didn't so I guess that means she did a good job.
More than likely, this movie will bomb. It's nothing that will have people talking and nothing that will make people come in to see it (not even word of mouth) but it was fun and it should do better than it actually will. However, I would say you could skip it. It's more of a renter. Unless you plan on seeing it, then you should. And you should buy a lot of the inexpensive candy at concessions.

Will Smith Jr Was Actually Good

I had the privilege of watching The Karate Kid last night and I was quite blown away. This movie was great. Now, I will start by saying that other than Jackie Chan, I was against this movie when they announced it. First and foremost, the original KK didn't need to be remade. That movie, with all of it's flaws, is a classic and I know I'm not the only one who loves it. Second, to replace Daniel-Son with a mini Will Smith was almost insulting, and I didn't even have anything to do with either films. You take all of the high-school angst and drama and give it to a ten year-old? The fudge ever. However, as time moved on and I saw more trailers and scenes, I started to get more intrigued. This was looking like it could actually shape-up to be a good show.
And I do believe it did. Even though it runs almost two and a half hours, I never felt the drag of it. And Jaden "Will Smith Jr" Smith was actually pretty good. Not a performance that was worthy of the highest praise but good. But Jackie Chan was this movie for me. Just as Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi was the star of the first one (even getting an Oscar nomination for Supporting Actor), Chan as Mr. Han took this one. I have been a Chan Fan for many a year and this may be one of his finest performances (once you see the "drunk anniversary" scene, you will be forced to agree with me). I know the standards have changed over the years, but if Morita can be nominated for his, Chan certainly deserves to be nominated for his. Chan and Smith actually made a really good duo on screen and I loved it.
This is a movie that I was hoping didn't suck and when that's the mind frame, things don't usually turn out for the better. But this one absolutely did. I came outta this movie remembering why I loved the first one so much. Yes it has it's slower parts and yes it has some questionable acting and lines but the feel of this movie and the heart of the story are very much those of the original and I am very grateful that they were able to keep that.
As Vanity Fair says "What’s wrong with a film that, while it doesn’t have a whole lot to say (except there seem to be some real asshole kids walking around Beijing) makes you walk out of the theater in a good mood?"
(on on a side-not, the same VF review says if you have trouble thinking it should be a remake, then call it The Kung-Fu Pre-Teen, since there wasn't actually karate in the movie, which is true)

Stupid Trumps Hot

I gotta tell ya up front, this doesn't make me look like a real good guy but it was funny so oh well. Last night at work some hot chick came out of theater 1 and did her little run to the bathroom. Being a dude, I certainly watched her "bounce" her way there and was happy enough to watch her "bounce" her way back. But then she got back to the theater and stopped. She stood in between theater 1 and 2 looking back and forth, trying to figure out which one she had come out of. I know we have a "lot" of theaters in that place and it can get real confusing at times but really, this one should have been easy. Theater 1. Very first one. Facing right out into the lobby. Or maybe I'm just a lot smarter than I thought. But either way I laughed.

How I Stole from Adam Chapter Two: Girly

I will start by say that I feel a little fooled into this one. The image and description make it sound like a crazy chick is in charge but it's a little more like the Addam's Family. Originally called Mumsy, Nanny, Sonny and Girly, it's the story of a "family" who find new friends at the park and then make them play or else the "send them to the angels". That is, until they grab a guy who is all to willing to play....
It sounds like it could be cool but nothing really happens. They guy actually just sleeps with the three ladies, pitting them against each other and when the "brother", Sonny, sees what's going on, he turns them against him too. And (hope I'm not ruining anything) Sonny and Nanny are the only ones to die with the vague ending giving us the clue that Mumsy or Girly will turn on each other (more than likely Girly coming out on top as they tend to depict her as the darker, more obsessed one). No blood, no nudity, the implication that Nanny's head is cut off and boiled but that's about it. I am sad to say that you may feel intrigued to try this one but you should not. There's just really nothing to see in this movie worth anything. But it is British so I suppose the blame is on my shoulders. If you want to, though, it appears to all be up on youtube. It's broken into ten minute sections, but it all appears to be there.

Tell Me I'm Wrong

I was watching Big today (you know Big: kid wishes to be big and he turns into Tom Hanks when it comes true) and something occurred to me. This fourteen year-old kid just has his body changed, right? He's still only fourteen, he mind is still that of a child (which is how he succeeds at his job) and he certainly doesn't have the life experience of anyone over fourteen. I'll forgo the whole fact that he was able to be promoted to such a high position, let alone even getting a job without any form of identification. But Elizabeth Perkins totally sexes him up. Maybe one of the most memorable scenes in the movie. He wants to keep the lights on so he can see her boobs when he touches them. However, he only looks older. So..... pedophilia or just statutory rape? Tell me I'm wrong. I want to be wrong, but looking older does not make what they did legal. So it has to be one of those two right? My guess is statutory rape since, that we know of, she's not attracted to children, just didn't know she was having sex with one. But ignorance of the law is no excuse. That's what Judge Judy taught me.

Movies

I meant to post this yesterday but I can now kill two birds with one stone:

Get Him to the Greek
Wow. This movie was awesome. If you've seen Forgetting Sarah Marshall, You know of Aldous Snow. It's pretty much the only time that Russel Brand is funny or even watchable. But now that number is increased by one (there were two of us in the wolf pack). Get Him to the Greek follows Brand's character from Sarah Marshall (Snow) and the music assistant who is tasked with getting him from England to the Greek Theater in LA for the 10th Anniversary performance of his band Infant Sorrow's "legendary" live performance that helped make them famous. It was dirty and crude and raunchy and hilarious. Great movie. If you enjoy those kinda humor movies, you'll love this one and I would highly recommend it.

Splice
This movie scared me. Not in the sense of it was a scary horror movie but in the sense of I was left with a scared face asking myself "What the **** just happened?!". Splice is about to geneticists who decide to cross the legal and moral line of human cloning and create and new hybrid they call Dren (sadly, it took them explaining in the movie for me to notice that Dren is Nerd, backwards, which is also the name of the lab company they work for) and that's when things go wrong, Now, the movie was just kinda "meh" for the most part. The two doctors are kinda stupid and they make a lot of ill-thought choices but that's a movie for ya. I found myself feeling sorry for the Dren creature and was actually hoping that she/it killed the doctors. Dren is growing extremely fast; years in the matter of weeks. And this is where the weird stuff starts happening. I won't ruin it here for anyone who may not want to know the ending but it messed with my mind. And things got mucked up. Let me know if you want it ruined.
